I have a friend whose IPC has some and runs without problems, but I'm not sure an older machine could handle it. I want to populate a Sun 3/80 motherboard with eight 70 ns three-chip 1 x 9's. Yes, no, or maybe? --Brian Brush - ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Sep 1996 18:37:27 -0500 (CDT) From: shannon morris Subject: GDM-1662B monitor To: suns-at-home@tigger.net-kitchen.com Is there an adaptor to connect the GDM-1662B Sun monitor up to a PC system? If so, where and how much? Then you have, effectively, >an IPX, and it will be just as fast. The 4/40 (IPC) has a 25MHz CPU. The IPX (4/50) has a 40MHz CPU. Adding a GX isn't going to make the CPU faster, though graphics would be accelerated if one took the appropriate steps to use it instead of the existing FB(s). Such a GX would be a plain SBus board, not something that would require a special socket. The IPC's SBus runs at 25MHz while the IPX's runs at 20. - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Sep 1996 19:12:41 -0500 (EST) From: "Clarence W. Wilkerson" Subject: IPC vs IPX To: rleir@achilles.net No, the IPC doesn't have a GX socket. No, an IPC is not as fast as a IPX, even with an GX card. The IPX does not use the same SIMMS as the IPC board, so the motherboard swap is not painless. A bare IPC MB + case/PS sells for about $200 now. A bare IPX MB + case/PS would be about $500 . The IPX would be about 50% faster and have the GX graphics. GX cards for IPC I've seen for $150-300, but these are not recent prices. The IPC will take up to 12 SIMMS ( 30 pin) in sets of 4 identical simms, for up to 48 megs. The IPX has 4 72 pin slots, for up to 64 megs. As far as I know, the SIMMS don't have to be paired. I've run with 16 megger and 2 4 meggers, and now with 3 16 megs and one 4 megger. Boston, Ma. area) To: Suns-at-Home@tigger.net-kitchen.com I have some old Sun-2 parts that I no longer have any use for, and would like to get rid of. I'm to find someone who can use them, rather than just dump them in the trash. A complete list of what I've got can be found at http://www.haven.boston.ma.us/~benji/junk.txt benji - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Oct 96 19:09:40 PDT From: rodgers@maxwell.ucsf.EDU (R. Things went very quickly. All we have left now is one (1) copy of SunPC 3.0 (PC emulator software for SunOS 4.1.X, supports Windows and DOS applications, developed by Insignia Software, Part No. 794-1169-03). This software is in its original carton, and has never been opened. Asking $100.00. - ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Sep 1996 03:14:00 -0400 From: Tom Chambers Subject: Sun to HP Office Jet To: Suns-at-Home@tigger.net-kitchen.com Hi, Does anyone know how to print to a HP OfficeJet LX (or an InkJet) from a Sun Sparc 10? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom - ------------------------------ End of Suns-at-Home Digest ******************************
