I've been looking all over for SunOS 4.0.1 but have had no luck so far. Is this the only OS that the 386i will run? Does anyone know where I can obtain a copy of the appropriate version of SunOS? This info is courtesy of Rahul Dhesi - a2i communications: a2i-sun-ppp -- Hints for configuring PPP for Sun machines PPP FOR SUN MACHINES I. FREE PPP for Suns 1. One free implementation that is said to work well is "db2.3". The C source is available by anonymous ftp from these locations: ftp.acn.purdue.edu:/dp jpl-devvax.jpl.nasa.gov:/incoming/telecommu To follow ongoing discussions among dp users, please send an email rquest to to dplist-request@phoenix.acn.purdue.edu and ask to be added to the dplist. 2. Another package, which might be similar, is ppp-2.1.2, available by anonymous ftp from these locations: merit.edu:/pub/ppp/sunos/ppp-2.1.2.tar.gz or dcssoft.anu.edu.au:/pub/ppp/ppp-2.1.2.tar.gz Where to get help: (a) The directory /B/ppp has some information files, including two help files: dp-2.3.help and dp-2.3.guide. Also, a modified dp-2.3 source tree is there for browsing in the sun.ppp directory. For actual installation you should probably get the pristine sources from one of the archive sites. (b) An a2i subscriber has collected some information about dp, including hints about how to install it. Use the command: lynx http://www.rahul.net/jacbop/dp or just cd to the directory ~www/jacbop/dp and consult the files there. II. COMMERCIAL PPP for Suns: Inquire from Morningstar for its PPP for Suns. It used to cost approximately $800. Try the anonymous ftp site ftp.morningstar.com for information files. == END == -- Jake Odell ** jake@pantheon.us.com ** jodell@rahul.net - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jul 1996 12:45:23 -0500 (CDT) From: aqn@tivoli.com (Andy Nguyen) Subject: slip/ppp software for sunos 4.1.3 To: Suns-at-Home@tigger.net-kitchen.com ehenry wrote: > >what can you suggest, for a sunos 4.1.3 needing slip/ppp software. I run Sun OS 4.1.3 on my Sun 3/60 at home. I have ppp-1.1 running. I could not get ppp-1.2 to work so I never upgraded. Installing ppp-1.1 requires changing several system include & config files and re-generating the kernel, then rebooting with the new kernel. -- Andy Nguyen \ aqn@tivoli.com \ Tivoli Systems, Austin, TX \ 512.436.8229 I still miss Charles Wang, but my aim is getting better. - ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Jul 1996 01:11:31 -0500 (EST) From: eric@dekard.com (Eric McGlohon) Subject: Sun 3/50 Monitor To: suns-at-home@tigger.net-kitchen.com Hi Sun Folks - I have a Sund 3/50 system and the monitor is slowly dying; the video image is slowly creeping to the left of the screen, every so often I have to move all of my windows to the right .... :p From what I hear it's a cap that dying in the monitor, but it's far easier and less time-consuming just to buy a new monitor. So my questions are: 1) What monitors will work for a replacement? 2) Anyone got an old 3/50 monitor for sale? TIA, -Eric P.S. Anyone looking to get rid of their old 4.1.1 manuals? - ------------------------------ End of Suns-at-Home Digest ******************************
