Or is there some maximum drive size for a Sun3? - ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Feb 1995 13:32:49 -0800 From: Fred Lakin Subject: cslip help for Sparc 1+ running 4.1.4 and connecting to TIA To: suns-at-home@ecn.purdue.edu Well, it still isn't quite working. We have every reason to believe the setup *can* be made to work, since someone with an IPX, cslip and TIA reports success. There must be just one little detail we are overlooking ... THE SYMPTOMS: Netscape .9 can hop around the Web pretty well. ftp sorta works, starts up OK usually, can transfer ascii files for a while then quits; binaries never make it out from my sparc [the file is created at the net end, but always with length of 0]. Telnet is even less robust, and telnet in an xterm window never works. Always the same symptom for ftp and telnet: ceases responding within seconds or minutes, ps shows IW for the state of the process, then times out after a while. OUR STATE so far: o did *not* install tcp from the 4.3-tahoe BSD release o udp_cksum turned on o hacked eeprom for flow control o modem has flow control enabled o modem cable has connection in the hwfc pins o installed SunOS 4.1.1;4.1.2;4.1.3: Jumbo tty patch o tcp_sendspace and tcp_recvspace adbed to 1024 Long story on each point below. Opinions and hints gratefully accepted! tnx, -f Fred Lakin :: lakin@pgc.com :: (415) 424-1086 512 Military Way, Palo Alto, CA 94306 USA ************ APPENDIX, LONG STORIES ********* MACHINE: Sparc 1+ running 4.1.4 and connecting to TIA at net end MODEM: ZOOMfaxMODEM VFX v.32bis, 14,400bps send/receive fax/data modem with v.42bis/MNP. We are running 4.1.4, and it said "If you are running SunOS 4.1.2 or higher, you can get away with the stock networking code." It can be found at Enjoy. Ps: I found it distressing that this month, 'Netscape for Windows' has over-taken 'Mosaic for X' as the most frequently used Web client [stats collected monthly] connecting to my server. Help combat this. mike - ------------------------------ End of Suns-at-Home Digest ******************************
