To: Suns-at-Home@ecn.purdue.edu Has anyone ever tried popping an 68030 into their 3/60? I noticed while I was poking around my 3/60 that there is a blank bunch of pads next to the '020 that have the pin-layout of an '030. Has anyone got any idea what this was for (a future upgrade path that was never implemented?). Can I stick an '030 in it (I realise this is probably unlikely) along similar lines, .. after having a flick through the 68882 data sheets and finding that it is pin-compatible with the 68881, I put a 68882 into my 3/60. It boots fine, and some simple math tests and the sundiag fputest work fine. Can anyone invisage any problems with this? duncan ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Nov 1994 22:06:18 +0000 (GMT) From: Karl Strickland Subject: no subject (file transmission) To: Suns-at-Home@ecn.purdue.edu I'm having a problem trying to get SCSI going on my 3/50. Its a diskless system & I'm trying to connect a SCSI tape drive. Basically it doesnt work :-) >From the PROM diagnostics I can do a 'SCSI Bus External Loopback Test' which reports errors: SCSI Loopback Error: all signals should be off(high) exp 0, obs FE SCSI Loopback Error: Signals:ACK,BSY,SEL,ATN,REQ,MSG,C/D,I,O: exp F0, obs FE SCSI Loopback Error: Signals:ACK,BSY,SEL,ATN,REQ,MSG,C/D,I,O: exp F, obs FE (yep that really is 'exp F' on the last line). Does this mean anything to anyone? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Nov 1994 15:08:03 +0100 From: jo@jupiter.va.mobitel.telia.se (Johnny Olofsson) Subject: ref Digest V7#35: dead NVRAM on 3/80 To: suns-at-home@ecn.purdue.edu I am sure that it is not only Jeremy Cooper, and now myself, who are in this situation. I got a fairly decent 3/80 thrown in my lap a couple of months ago and it was totally noncooperative. I have a new NVRAM on hand but I am not sure exactly how to feed it, nor do I have any good idea of how to find the necessary info. After scanning the sun-386i mailing list, we still use a couple of RR-250:s at my office, for quite a handful of mails regarding NVRAM problems, I am inclined to beleive that I will have to send in the old barcoded chip to Sun in order to get a new functional one. And this would, according to someone on the sun-386i list, cost around 200 Deutsche Mark and take a couple of months. If Sun still accept such requests, that is... Please, is there someone out there who can help me, Jeremy and maybe some more? I would be most happy if I could kick some life into this 3/80 and use it at home (gotta give the kids a counterpoise to the PC & Windows world...) I think mine has gone bad. It is not the fuse.. The chip > transmits but does not recieve. Thanks for any help.. > Matt As far as I know, the 3/60 uses a Lance ethernet. This is a 7990 chip (from AMD I think). Are you sure it isn't the actual cable tranceiver chip that is dead? That is the DP8392 (look for it it next to the BNC connector) Wilko ------------------------------ End of Suns-at-Home Digest ******************************
