The newer bootrom is useful. It supports 150 meg tape drives as well as standard 60 meg ones, it also supports more frame buffer types as well. It does NOT have a help menu for the monitor though. My 3/60 have ROM revision 2.83 fitted when I bought it (second hand) from a software consultancy in Adelaide (South Australia) early last year, and I had to upgrade it to support the cg6 graphics accelerator I fitted into it a few months ago. The standard colour frame buffer is a cg4, so I'd assume that most revisions of the bootrom support this. > o Am I wasting my time with the CD? should I just go for 4.0.3? Ok, the most recent version of Sun/os that will run on a 3/60 is 4.1.1u1 (meaning update 1). If you can't get a copy of 4.1.1u1 on tape (don't bother with the CD version, there aren't any earlier versions for the 3-series that support CD drives) 4.0.3 is fine. I started with 4.0.1 until I tracked down tapes of 4.1.1u1. If you can, get yourself a manual set for sun/os 4.0.x. Even if you can get 4.1.1u1, don't get it's manaul set because it's HUGE! Of course, if you've got acres of shelf space then by all means get it. I don't, so I tracked down a source of 4.0.3 manuals which are fine for later revisions unless you're doing something very version-sepcific (like installation!). > o Can I configure my system with the 4.0.3 then upgrade using the > CD? No version later than 4.1.1u1 will run on a 3/60. If you get 4.1.1u1 on a CD, make sure it's for the 3-series and not the early sparc machines (the 4-series). By all means install from a CD on another machine, but make sure you're installing the right version/CPU combination for the 3/60. > Any help appreciated... This should give you some pointers. It , together with a client program "txconn" allows direction of an x-socket to a remote machine. With a 14.4k modem, it's okay for many things. The last version that worked for me was version 1.14.
