On powering it up after returning from holidays recently, it gave a very dim image and the text appeared out of focus. I powered it down to have a look at it, saw nothing obvious (like smoke) and turned it on again, this time complete darkness and a strange buzzing from the back. Still no smoke or anything else. The buzzing is pretty faint and seems to be coming from the video circuits not the power supply. Any ideas as to what is wrong, or things to look for or test, will be very gratefully received. The monitor is probably 6 or so years old. I've used it continuously for the last 18 months, I normally run it 24 hours a day. thanks in advance, Malcolm Butler (malb@bellman.apana.org.au) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Apr 94 15:08:01 PDT From: breyer@pcsi.com (Larry Breyer) Subject: Internet via Cable TV To: Suns-at-Home@ecn.purdue.edu I saw this article in Open Systems Today. In it was a reference to a Cable TV company in Boston offering access to the Internet. Has anybody else heard about this? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Apr 94 11:46:14 BST From: "John O'Connor" Subject: LEDs on a SUN 3/50 To: suns-at-home@ecn.purdue.edu Does anyone know the meaning of the Diagnostic LEDs on a SUN 3/50? My one has stopped booting, all leds on and no life on the serial port. While I was setting up the system I noticed the Parallel port (a very nice feature), however when I connect a standard PC Printer to the port using my standard PC/Printer cable (which works perfectly) I get the following: Command: cat /etc/rc.local >> /dev/pp0 Printer: prints the first line of the file and stops. Turning printer off/on-line prints the next time and stops If you repeat the off/on switching you eventually get the listing printed but this is NOT usable. Console: the console reports "device pp0 off line" or something like it, but the messages does not appear at the same time as the printer stopping printing or being turned off-line. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks Mike cross%spuddy@britain.eu.net ------------------------------ End of Suns-at-Home Digest ******************************
