I have built and am using modloadable PPP drivers from release 1.2 pppd and chat from the 386bsd distribution (available by anonymous ftp from agate). I am able to make a ppp connection through the Berkeley annex terminal server and once I have established a default route, I am able to use 'nslookup' to ns1 (a campus nameserver) and I can 'ping' everywhere. But for some reason, I am unable to telnet in or out (to any machine besides myself). Any suggestions or ideas? Actually the very first time I made a successful ppp connection, I was able to both telnet in and out... but subsequent ppp connections have not resulted in successful telnet sessions. (i.e. no motherboard or anything else.. just a power supply and drives) It has the original SCSI cable with the DB50 connector going out the back of the case. I'd like to connect this beast to the back of my 3/60 (also DB50). Can anyone tell me whether I can use a straight-through cabl;e or if I'll have to cross wires somewhere? A look at it shows that easyinstall was trying to > run format to label the HD (although it already _is_ labeled, mind > you), and that failed because format complained that a part of sd0 > (namely, sd0b) was mounted. It is trying to repartition -- the partition table lives in the "label." This is wierd -- I have installed 4.1.1 from tape on a 3/60 without having such troubles. Are you trying to change the size of the root (a) partition, or decrease the size of the swap (b) partition, from within suninstall? That sort of thing has to be done using munix instead, but other partition changes "should" be OK. If all else fails, and you have the disk labelled and partitioned exactly the way you want it before starting suninstall (which means that you did a dry run and noted how big each partition needed to be, then went back to munix and partitioned it that way), you could try replacing the miniroot's copy of format with a script which just does an "exit 0". ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Nov 1993 09:50:41 +0000 (GMT) From: Robert Nicholson Subject: Simple Sun questions for those in the Know To: suns-at-home@orchestra.ecn.purdue.edu I currently run a NeXTSTATION color with Co-Xist X Emulation and I'm thinking about changing over to a more capable Motif platform. What do you think is a good SS (Configuration) to do Motif work on? My initial inquiries have shown that 2nd hand SS's are about the same price as a brand new Indy. (What is the typical price of a 2nd hand SS?) Also: is _all_ the documentation online thru Answerbook? (Admin?) BTW: Is my understanding correct in that a hell of a lot of tools were unbundled as of SunOS 5? Would you yourself run SunOS 4.1.3? It seems to be more SunOS like. Also: GCC is getting better and better, do you know anybody using it commercially on Suns for X/Motif development? What issues should I be made aware of regarding Motif on Sun Platforms? H/w issues? S/w issues? I've read the Motif FAQ and the Sun FAQ's I couldn't gleam this information from them. Cheers. Please email I will summarize. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Nov 93 14:15:43 -0500 From: Bob Sutterfield Subject: SLIP on SunSparc2/os 4.1.3 To: Suns-at-Home@ecn.purdue.edu Which is a good public domain s/w for Sun OS4.1.3 , I am looking at slip4.0 on ai.toronto.edu. I hear that ftp.ee.lbl.gov:cslip-2.7.tar.Z is considered the best (certainly the most recent) freely-available SLIP for your sort of system. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Nov 93 09:46:41 MST From: firstbase!john@cs.arizona.edu (John Bolding) Subject: Sun3 for sale To: suns-at-home@orchestra.ecn.purdue.edu Sun 3/50M-4-P14 for sale: Sun3/50 - 4MB Main Memeory 327MB disk subsystem with 60MB 1/4" tape drive. 19" Monochrome monitor (365-1051-1) SunOS 4.1 List price was $15,300.
