I'm writing to see what anyone knows about a program along the lines of Soft PC (a Macintosh program that emulates an 80x86 box in software) for the Sun 3-line (3/60 in particular). Yes, I know it won't be zippy, but that's the price of emulation. Of course, a public-domain emulator would be best, but pointers to the commercial package will be appreciated too, since I expect that's how I'll have to go (as long as the price is less than what a real Mess-DOS box would cost). Either '286 or '386 emulation would work fine for what I need it for. Pointers to used copies sold by private parties will be appreciated too, depending on what keys are used to tie the program to a particular host. What I would like to do though is transfer the Sony monitor that came with the system over to a PC but the sync rates are different. Inside the system is a h-sync adjustment but I can't find anything else. Sony was supposed to have a computer specialist call me back but so far, nothing. Has anyone done this yet? I wonder if Sun had these systems designed specifically for their use and if so, mabey there's some kind of converter out there I can use. If anyone out there could help me diagnose the st problem I'd really appriciate it... oops, gota go... a lighting bolt just struck *real* close to my house. Have you done anything to the system??. The best thing to do is to boot from tape and access the drive through format and run analyze if it fails you need to replace the drive. By the way, my company can help you getting a drive if you need it. We support Sun Workstations and file servers. Luis Vallejo polaris1!lv@uunet.uu.net Support Eng.
