Granville ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Sep 1992 02:43:41 GMT From: mrapple@quack.sac.ca.us (Nick Sayer) Subject: 3/80 -> SS2 To: (null) I am about to aquire a 3/80 which I want to transform into an SS2. The 3/80 will be totally headless, diskless and RAMless. The point of having the 3/80 isn't to actually have it, but to get the SS2 cheaply. I am aware of two methods which make this possible: 1. A Sun upgrade. 2. Purchasing a SparcEngine 2, doing the motherboard swap myself, then selling the 3/80 bare-board. I am inclined to #2. As far as I am aware, I'll have to cope with the following if I do that: 1. Making sure the power supply is beefy enough 2. Putting in an extra fan near the front 3. The 3/80 sticker on the front panel 4. The back panel Have I missed anything? Can anyone think of any reason I should do #2 instead of #1? -- Nick Sayer | "YOU GAVE AWAY FOURTY-SEVEN N6QQQ @ N0ARY.#NOCAL.CA.USA.NOAM | MILLION DOLLARS?!
