I will be booting from tape with an HD that is not even formatted yet. My problem, as I see it, is that my HD is not in the standard disktab/format.dat tables. How do I go about booting and formatting the system? I have an idea, but I am not sure if it would work, or if there is a simpler way. My idea is: o Boot, and format the drive with the closest entry in format.dat then o Install the mini-root, make a format.dat entry, then re-format the drive, loosing the mini-root and the change. o Re-install the miniroot and re-edit the format.dat Any simpler ways to do this? Also, I can't find an explanation of the entires in the format.dat file, can anybody clue me in, or give me a pointer to the info (I don't have a manual set)? I run a TeleBit TrailBlazer Plus modem to uucp and tip to my office where I run a 4/370 server. I have tried to compile and run ppp but cannot seem to get it going. Could someone who is running ppp over a pair of modems like mine document in simple terms how to run ppp? Here's the basics Sun 2/120 CPU pedestal with: * 4mb ram * cgone color card * SCSI interface card (SCSI to tape/disk, & 4 serial ports) * Adaptec 4000 series SCSI<->st506 adaptor * 70MB disk * 20Mb tape drive * Xylogics 451 SMD Disk controller * Sky Floating Point board * Sun2 keyboard & Mono monitor Sun Disk pedestal Fujitsu 120MB (formatted) SMD Disk as boot disk with SunOS 3.5 installed. Also the MIT Xwindows binaries and a boatload of other miscelaneous stuff. I also have an ethernet card, but am not using it since the card cage is full and nothing else in the house is ethernet. Clearly more is better for me and less is better for you. I would like to see in the neighborhood of $1600 for it, which I don't think is unreasonable given that it has a FAST disk & color capability. If you're interested, give me a call or send email.
