Logan) Subject: 2/50s with > 4meg To: Suns-at-Home@orchestra.ecn.purdue.edu I asked this question of Simon Hackett (simon@ucs.adelaide.edu.au). He suggested I put it here, since he was interested too, so here goes. Sorry if this has been asked before, but uucp-wars up here prevent me from doing a wholesale search of the archives. I've only been reading sah for a few days, but already I've seen references to '5 meg' and '8 meg' 2/50s. I thought that the max amount of RAM you could have was 4 megs... if that's not true, then HOW do I upgrade?? I'd *love* to have some more space around here :-) Thanks, Scott Logan logan @ torag.uucp Torag Communication Systems, Toronto, Ontario ...!hybrid!torag!logan "We don't *believe* in miracles... we *RELY* on them." ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Jan 91 17:56:25 EST From: rs@ai.mit.edu (Robert E. Seastrom) Subject: 96A0 error solved To: suns-at-home@orchestra.ecn.purdue.edu Well, here's the way the 96A0 error finally finished... My distribution tapes weren't original Sun tapes. They were copies, and the fellow who made them for me assumed that since I had a 60 MB tape drive that I wanted them in QIC-24 format. Apparently, when standalone copy gets to a certain point, it jams the tape drive in QIC-11 mode, so there's where I was losing. I copied the tapes into QIC-11 format, and now everything's fine. See my next message for what's making me crazy now! ---Rob ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Jan 91 12:06:16 +0000 From: Syngen Brown Subject: Loopback for fat Ethernet (Suns-at-Home Digest V4 #3 ) To: Suns-at-Home@ecn.purdue.edu Steve Simmons writes: > Are you trying to set up a transcieverless homemade home ethernet > with 15-pin cables? This is a little box which connects two AUI's together without using transceivers etc. The cost is around that of a regular transceiver. SQE is selected with an internal jumper, and theres a full set of LED status indicators. I've used it for test purposes and also for connecting a host AUI directly to a remote repeater, the device derives it's power from one of the AUI ports.
