I can't make it work (but I'm sure the cgfour works): when in test mode the 4/110 just says it didn't found any P4 framebuffer, and NetBSD doesn't find it either. Do I need any special PROM version or set any special jumper on the motherboard? Or just the 3/60 cgfour can't be used on a 4/110? Thanks in advance. Kurth" Subject: FS: Sparcstations and Extras To: suns-at-home@tigger.net-kitchen.com I have the following two Sun Sparcstation systems for sale: ================================== SPARCclassic microSPARC 50MHz processor 24MB RAM, expandable to 96MB Onboard CG3 color framebuffer 2GB Conner SCSI HD (Solaris 7 installed) Onboard ethernet 17" Sun/Sony color monior (GDM-1662B) Type 5 keyboard and optical mouse with pad CD-ROM drive in external Sun 411 case All cables. This system is in pefect condition. It does not have a floppy drive. But I have a bare drive that I can include and you can install it. Asking $500 plus shipping (freight, containers and packaging). =================================== SPARCstation IPC 4/40 SPARC processor 16MB RAM, expandable to 48MB Onboard b/w framebuffer CG3 Sbus color framebuffer 207MB SCSI HD (SunOS 4.1.1 installed) 3.5" floppy drive Onboard ethernet 19" Hitachi color monitor (HM-4119-S-D-0L) Type 4 keyboard and optical mouse with pad Maxtor LXT-535SY 535MB HD in external 411-like case Wangtek QIC-150 cartridge tape drive in external 411-like case All cables. Original shipping containers. Asking $200 plus shipping. The Hitachi monitor is not in perfect condition. There is some slight distortion of the image from top to bottom. Things are slightly talling at the bottom than at the top. It can probably be adjusted by an expert. =============================== I also have the following parts available: 2 - 1GB IBM DPES-30810 SCSI hard drives in Sun 411 cases, $125 each 1 - SCSI CD-ROM drive in Sun 411 case, $100 1 - Wangtek QIC-150 SCSI tape drive in 411-like case, $50 1 - 760MB Maxtor XT-8760-S SCSI full-height 5.25" hard drive in external case, $25 1 - 1GB Seagate ST11200N SCSI hard drive, bare drive only, $50 1 - 424MB Seagate ST1480N SCSI hard drive, bare drive only, $25 The three 1GB drives have Solaris 7 installed. The other two drives have a single Solaris 7 partition (empty). I have SCSI cables for all these drives. 6 - new (never used, 5 are still sealed) QIC-150 cartridge tapes, $10 each 16 - used QIC-150 cartridges tapes, $3 each 6 - Type 4 keyboards with optical mice and pads, $20 each set 1 - non-functional 19" Sony monitor. This monitor has a bad tube, but the case is in excellent condition. It would be good for replacing a broken or damaged case holding a good tube. $10 1- Solaris 2.4 package, media and docs - FREE =================================== The Solaris 7 version which has been installed on all drives is the free developer's edition. Although it is a full version of Solaris, the license allows its use only for non-commercial enterprises. This equipment is located in Phoenix, AZ. All prices exclude shipping costs, both freight (from zipcode 85022) and packaging. I will consider delivery in the Phoenix area for orders over $100. I am open to offers on all of the above equipment. I looked up the hardware info on your system and didn't see any mystery jumpers or switches. The only info. I could find in the manual on Power On problems is: http://docs.sun.com:80/ab2/coll.208.1/SMSS4MDL110/@Ab2PageView/idmatch(Z4000112B61)#Z4000112B61? The Sparc 4 hardware manual itself is located at: http://docs.sun.com:80/ab2/coll.208.1/SMSS4MDL110/@Ab2TocView? I'm not sure what happened, but if it had been off for a long time, sometimes capacitors fail, but the most common failure in any workstation is the power supply. You can get spare power supplies from Sun brokers (see Processor at www.processor.com), or contact MCE (at www.mce.com, ask for Chris Patterson). Be sure to check that all cables and modules are secure. Sorry I couldn't solve the problem, but I hope this helps. > so that's the story. if you have any ideas, i'd appreciate them > very much. as Sun, Inc. is charging me $300 for a tech rep for > two hours!! i don't think that's fair. Take a look at the BGNT and IACK jumper settings on the backplane. Do you have all of the boards installed and in their original locations? >Date: Tue, 17 Aug 1999 17:11:19 +1200 >From: jphindin@paradise.net.nz (JP Hindin) >Subject: Sun 4/260 won't boot off SMD drive >To: suns-at-home@tigger.net-kitchen.com > >Hi all, >I'm new to the list.. A TIMEOUT error was delected. Type 2. Just some advice for users of old equipment that is not common in home use: I don't know the answer to your problem. Instead, I would suggest you try posting on the sun sysadmin newsgroup (comp.sys.sun.admin) where someone is sure to give an answer if you don't get it from Suns-at-Home. The problem is that few people have 470s at home - they eat too much electricity - and neither they nor the 260s are very fast by today's standards. Another very good place to look for help with older machines is on the SunHelp site (http://www.sunhelp.org) - there are many links to sites supporting "historical" Sun boxes. > "To err is only human - to blame someone else is more so" I can't resist it: "To err is only human - to moo is bovine" -- -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.1 GO/! d- s++:+ a+ C++(++++) US+++$ P+ L+ E--- W++ N++ w--- O- V- PS+ PE- Y+ PGP- t+ 5++ X+ R* tv+ b+ DI++ D G e(*) h++/-- r+++ y? ------END GEEK CODE BLOCK------ ----------------------------------------------------- Bob Hoekstra: APL & Unix Consultant Tele: +44 (0)1483 771028 (Home) +44 (0)410 562345 (Mobile) Web site: http://www.khamsin.demon.co.uk Home email: Bob.Hoekstra@khamsin.demon.co.uk ----------------------------------------------------- - ------------------------------ End of Suns-at-Home Digest ******************************
