I have found that some digging at docs.sun.com at least reveals specs. I had to do this awhile back to find a processor upgrade for my Sparc 10. You could also search their site for 'spares'; I don't recall the url offhand though.... The Spares guide provides p/n for hardware configs and parts for just about everything they've made. I belive that is an SMCC resource. > > I have a Sparc 20 with Quard processors, internal CD-Rom and two > internal hard drives. Can any one make suggestions on how to cool the > internal system case. Does anyone know of any good resources to start learning about the system? Or perhaps some books? The Sparc 2 has the best monitor and least cpu power of the 3 boxes. Proposed solution: have the programs run on the other two boxes and output to the 2's display, (using it as a X server). Now I know how to do this, but the OpenWindows 3 on the sparc 2 seems to get confused and then "lock up" (no keyboard response) when I do this. I have no such problems between the Solaris and Linux boxes (and I run Netscape on the 10 and output to Linux display daily... since the Linux box is short on RAM). Any suggestions? (other than reloading the 2 with Freebsd. Solaris or Linux... I pretty sure that would fix it) I am not opposed to loading another OS, but I have it configured the way I like it and am kind of lazy. Also I need to unsubscribe and resubscribe to this listserver as my email address is about to change. How do I unsubscribe? [Send me mail at suns-at-home-request@net-kitchen.com and I'll get things] [taken care of for you. --ddm ] One more thing, is there a good explination of the relative cpu power on the Sparc 10 & 20? My 10 has a 125 mhz hypersparc chip 40 mhz chip. I am trying to understand the relative performance differences. ============ http://bboone.home.mindspring.com/ ================= ======= linux links | Security | Humor | Ham Radio | Misc ========== ==================================================================== - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Apr 1999 11:49:29 -0400 From: Peter Leonard Krebs Subject: Suns-at-Home Digest V12 #12 To: suns-at-home-request@tigger.net-kitchen.com Hi, I have a SUN Sparcstation IPC and SUN Sparcstation II which are giving me loads of trouble. Both machines seem to boot (drives spin up, keyboard lights go on) but video output is going nowhere. I have a fixed frequency NOKIA monitor, Model 365-1286-01, Type 449A, Max Resolution 1152 X 864 Composite Sync 61.8 Khz/66hz, and am using the built in mono framebuffer on the IPC and a TX video adapter on the Sparcstation II, and each time the monitor will flicker and do nothing. An IPX that I also own has no problem with the monitor. My question therefore is: is my problem related to the video cardso on the two sun boxes, or am I dealing with a bad monitor. NB: My goal on the systems is to install RH Linux (Sparc) and then keep the machines on the network as a mail and webserver, respectively. Could this be done using a dumb terminal attached to the serial port? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. -- Peter Leonard Krebs webmaster@dcaonline.com Cornell University http://www.dcaonline.com - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Apr 1999 12:47:18 -0400 From: Howard Huntley Subject: Suns-at-Home Digest V12 #12 To: Suns-at-Home@tigger.net-kitchen.com I have a Sparc 20 with Quard processors, internal CD-Rom and two internal hard drives.
