To: Suns-at-Home-List@tigger.net-kitchen.com Hi Everyone: I have an ancient (read Sun 3/280) that I am going to attempt to install Sun 4.1.4 on. I have a monitor connected to the serial port, and when I boot up with the Diagnostic switch on, the following message appears: >memory size= 0x00000038 megabytes >Initialization ECC memory meg 0x00000038 ( Actually this starts at 0 and >runs thru to 38 on the last 2 digits) >Err13: Unexp'd trap/vector pc 0x0FEF24B4 vector offset 0x0000007C So, I assume thie either means I have a bad memory board, or else I have one out of place. There are some LED's towards the bottom of the screen that are in this configuration: > x > x > x > . > . > x > > where x= red light is on, .= no light is on. I believe I have the boards jumpered in this order: CPU (empty) MEM3, MEM2, MEM1, MEM0, SCSI I don't have any documentation or manuals for this Sun Server, so I was wondering if someone here either had any manual's they no longer need, or if you know where I can obtain any documentation for the Sun MP system in a 3/280 configuration ? When mains is applied the green LED on the front panel comes on, but when the power switch is turned on, the amber LED lights up and nothing else happens. I've had the power supply out and can't see any obvious problem with it, or the power rails on the backplane. Has anyone else had this problem? Or are there some PSU fixing geniuses out there? Does anybody in the UK happen to have a spare lying about that they can let me have for very little (poor student alert). On a different note, does anybody have a 50 pin micro D to 50 pin D type SCSI lead or a 50 pin D type to 50 pin D type lead that they don't need any more? After a few days, the HD crashed (426 meg) and so I re-formatted and installed 2.6 and the CDE (slow). Under the hood, I found a board having an Intel 486/33. From FAQs all over, I learned this is an accelerator board for Sunpc, that is supposed to allow 486-pc emulation, provided you`ve got SunPC installed. Does anyone know where I can acquire sunpc, or is there another OS (linux ?) supporting the accelerator board? Any experiences with this board ? I also have another board, having a 96 pin connector. I assume this is some kind of external SBus interface. Does anyone know what purpose it serves ? The PSU appears to be OK. If you are stuck, letme know and I'll enquire. al. -- /* Allan.Kelly@ed.ac.uk .. . . . . http://edina.ed.ac.uk * Software Engineer * . . . . . Some I sold , some I vowed to keep. Here my quandry, some visualisation of the LAN I have a network at home ( ethernet). on it , I have an NT server that acts pribarily as the dialup to the internet. I also have a smattering of W95 and WFW 3.11 machines. On the lan also sits a Linux ( slackware) machine . and now , a sparc 2 running 2.6 with CDE as the GUI d' riguer. I have not had any problem at all getting out to the 'net from ANY of the machines. The Linux machine has a built in POP server and an SMTP relay.. I have been able to send mail out to the net via the Linux box via pine ( thru the nt machine running a proxy server ,Ositis winproxy) What I am having a bit of trouble with is internaly . I need to send email from the NT box using the Linux box as the SMTP onto the Sparc. I can get as far as the Linux box . Any ideas as to what to check ? Over our eight years of life, we've piled up a lot of Sun parts that we don't need any more (plus some we never needed) and would like to get rid of. This includes, lots of Sun 3 and Sun 4/2xx parts, a "Roadrunner", and the boards from a Sun 4/370, plus a few other odds and ends. If anyone is interested in this stuff (especially if you are near Ann Arbor - some of this stuff is probably worth less than the shipping charges if you are far away), check out the part list at http://www.cyberspace.org/staffnote/forsale.html By the way, if you or your company have stuff you'd like to get rid of for a tax deduction, we are a 501(c)3 tax-exempt corporation. Check out the page http://www.cyberspace.org/staffnote/wishlist.html for some clues on what kind of stuff we are looking for.
