Sure do. There's a place in Milpitas, Ca. called Computer Surplus Store which sells all the Adaptec boards (Adaptec is across the street from them). They run an ad in Computer Shopper every month, the price for an Adaptec ACB4000 is $89 in the ad I'm looking at. I've bought quite a bit of stuff from these guys, and always enjoyed doing business with them. They're very helpful and go out of their way to accomodate you. A pleasant surprise considering how cheap they sell stuff. Ask for Jim Shuetz, he's they guy who knows all about Adaptec boards. There is only one caveat I can think of. The boards used in all the Sun 2s I've seen were marked as ACB4000A, I not sure what the difference is between that and a plain ACB4000, if any, so you'd better check it out first. Jim would probably know, and CSS probably carries both. McKay) Subject: Disks for Sun 2??? To: suns-at-home I'm considering increasing the disk storage on my Sun 2. Here's what I currently have: Sun 2/120, SCSI disk controller 2 x Micropolis 1305 50 Meg. disks I currently have both drives mounted inside my Sun 2 side-car. A quick look at Sun's docs indicates two other "Sun-blessed" disks I could replace one or both of my 50 Meg'ers with: a Micropolis 1325 (70 Meg.) and a Maxtor 1040 (140 Meg.). Of the two I lean towards the 140 Meg. disk (If you're going to upgrade, why not *UPGRADE*.). What I'm after is one or two cheap, large disks that will fit in the Sun 2 side-car. I know there's got to be other/better/cheaper solutions then the disks Sun suggests. So... - What other choices are there? - Where is the cheapest/best place to buy one of these disks? (I've been looking in Computer Shopper...) - How about adding a SCSI disk? (one with a built-in SCSI controller) Can it be done on a Sun2? What do you need to do it, what cables, other mods? --Dwight D. Sometimes it seems that a defective controller will pull tapes off the reel. This is a nuisance, but repairable by removing the tape back and carefully rewinding about 15 feet of tape. With a little practice, this can be done in 15 minutes. For the problem of dataless people, try getting the sweepings of dropped bits from office installations. Take them home and arrange them into information. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 18 Mar 88 20:51:59 EST From: pur-ee!sambation.bellcore.com!perry (Perry Metzger) Subject: Trailblazer interactivity To: Suns-at-Home@mckay.uucp As I understand it, the "fix" was to have the modem detect interactive use and drop down to 2400 baud standard transmition. Not my idea of a fix. But, lest I slander Telebit, I don't know if this is true or not. If someone would check it out, I would appreciate it. .pm ------------------------------ End of Suns-at-Home Digest ******************************
