I bought a 2/170 with a SCSI tape system, and SMD disk controller, and can borrow a SMD disk from work, but I have a pair of 70 Mb ST506 disk drives at home that I'd like to get up on the system. Any leads would be appreciated. Also, we have a project going here to provide a good "working-at-home" environment, which includes SLIP to home systems, and we'll be trying both Trailblazers, and Microcom AX9624's, so should be able to report pretty definitively. ...!{amdahl|pur-ee|hplabs|decwrl}!spar!faunt faunt@spar.slb.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Mar 88 20:26:16 PST From: pur-ee!CS.UCLA.EDU!stott (Dr D Stott Parker) Subject: Telebit Trailblazer promotion To: Suns-at-Home@mckay.uucp I had intended to get a pair of Trailblazer modems until V1 #7, when I read the following extract of the message from Perry Metzger: > Date: Sun, 7 Feb 88 14:41:46 EST > From: pur-ee!sambation.bellcore.com!perry (Perry Metzger) > Subject: High-speed modems > To: Suns-at-Home@mckay.uucp > > I thought this would be of some ancillary interest to the list. > > Recently my group at Bellcore began to look in to high speed modems to > allow some of the people in our group to bring sun workstations home > and telecommunicate via SLIP. This concerned me, so recently I finally inquired about the problem with Telebit. The problem with interactive use has been fixed in the most recent ROM. An extract of the message confirming the statements of the local sales rep was as follows: > From: telebit!mike@uunet.UU.NET > Subject: Trailblazer modems > Date: Tue Mar 8 17:09:21 1988 > > Our TrailBlazer will work with TCP/SLIP without modification, and with the most > recent firmware release, V4.00, we have greatly improved interactive response. > > ================================================================================ > Richard Siegel Phone: (408) 996-2644 > Senior Systems Engineer UUCP: {uunet, ames, hoptoad}!telebit!rls > Telebit Corporation ARPA: telebit!rls@ames.ARPA > > "When the going gets tough, the weird turn pro"...HST > ================================================================================ I also spoke with Siegel by phone.
