Tuck Subject: NFS over phone lines To: Suns-at-Home@ea.ecn.purdue.edu Does anyone have experience mounting NFS filesystems over a phone line? With slipnet and a fast modem it seems at least technically possible, but I'm wondering how hard it was to set up and how well it works. What speed modem does is needed to get "acceptable" performance? (And how do you measure "acceptable"?) Thanks in advance, Russ -- Russell R. The deal is: If you have a USENET site map entry, you can by up to two Telebit Trailblazers for half-price. For example, a stand-alone model cost me $727., which included the 7% sales tax I have to pay. The Trailblazers are adaptive modems designed for asynchronous communication over dial-up lines, at rates up to 18,000 bps. They are also compatible with the common 300, 1200, and 2400 bps standards. They are reported to work very well for uucp or SLIP, and are currently useable for interactive use, but this is being improved. ...!{amdahl|pur-ee|hplabs|decwrl}!spar!faunt faunt@spar.slb.com ------- ------------------------------ End of Suns-at-Home Digest ******************************
