Back in July 2007 "silvercreekvalley" was asking
about a clicking sound every few seconds from his disks.

I've seen this as well, and stopped it.  Chances are this
is some script kiddie trying to get into via ssh,
and each login attempt is logged, then waits a
few seconds and tries again.  You can tail on
secure or auth.log or whatever you have on your
OS and watch that the click corresponds to this.

The solutions are to either setup Denyhosts package
or to move your ssh to listening on a non-default port.
Both work very well and besides making the disks
quiet, also improve your security.
