AFAIK, all 450s are created equal (performance-wise), the different part numbers matter for some applications (i.e. certain mainboards, OpenBoot PROM level and CPU part number combinations will or will not work), but again, AFAIK, it is a binary question - it will either work or not work, not better or worse... They're all slightly different which is why they have different 501-xxxx numbers, even though all the 450's which work in U60's and u60-based derivatives (T1125, etc.) are allocated the x1195a option code. If you check out the System Handbook you'll see what I mean: http://www.sunshack.org/data/sh/2.1/infoserver.central/data/syshbk/Devices/CPU_Module/UltraSPARC_450MHz_UltraII.html It's generally not a good idea to combine CPU's of the same speed but different part numbers because the differences in the ASIC's, etc. can trigger kernel panics, and all sorts of other unusual problems if something trips up. Even though the x-number is the same, sticking to identical 501-xxxx numbers gives the best reliability. Regards, Craig. -- Post by Craig Dewick (tm). Web @ "http://lios.apana.org.au/~cdewick". People still have SUN systems at home. I got busy with the HP net server LxPro and LH4 series of server. Well now I am ready to look at the sun systems in my home LAB. To view my at home LAB you can go to [Password=howard], "http://imageevent.com/hhuntley/computerlab" I still have a problem with my ultra 1 and the dual monitors hanging up the boot up. When the sun ultra boots, I have to telnet from my PC into the sun system and run the command "etc/init.d/dtlogin start" to get the dual headed sun to the login screen. Any way I plan to get a Sun Blade 100 -150 and install dual heads on it. Well, it appeared that the only dead part was in fact the power supply. So, I would like to know if somebody on the mailing list has an Ultra 30/60's power supply left on a shelf or serving as a door stopper (but functionnal)? Of course, I would pay for handling/shipping and I would be willing to pay something like 20$ for the power supply itself. I can pay via Paypal, or trade for other pieces of Sun hardware (inquire, maybe I have what you need?). Thanks in advance!! Ben Audet
