Hi everyone,
I've worked out a partial solution to the printing problems with my
networked HP-4050N printer and StarOffice 5.2 on this machine (my Sparc
20) thanks to some suggestions from a few friends who live locally and who
also use StarOffice.
At present, the only option is to use the generic postscript driver
supplied with StarOffice...
First suggestion to make printing work was to adjust the resolution
setting from the default of 300 to the correct figure of 1200 (as per the
HP specs page for the 4050N), however this did nothing. Print jobs were
still being sent to the printer but there was no actual printing taking
place.
However, when I printed out a test page from 'spadmin' (which has always
worked) the printout was much better defined thanks to the resolution
adjustment.
Next suggestion was to change the postscript emulation level from 2 (which
is what the 4050N supports) back to 1, and that worked! I was able to
print out sometest documents successfully!
So the questions remain as to why this behaviour occurs, and where can I
find a ppd file for the HP-4050N to load into StarOffice? I looked through
the two CD's supplied by HP, but there was nothing that looked obviously
like a ppd file. They aren't named 'file.ppd' which makes searching a
little difficult for the uninitiated. 8-)
Regards,
Craig.
